The Boy Who Arrived

Chapter 1 of Anh's story

Paragraph A Anh is a young boy. He is twelve years old. One morning, he arrives at an old, quiet monastery high in the mountains. He carries a small bag on his back. Inside the bag there is one book, one cup, and one blanket.
Paragraph B An old monk opens the heavy door. He looks at Anh and smiles. He does not speak. He points to a small room at the end of a long stone corridor. In the room there is a simple wooden bed, a small table, and a candle.
Paragraph C Anh walks slowly. He looks at the walls. On the walls there are signs. One sign says "SILENCE." One sign says "WATER" with an arrow. One sign says "GARDEN" with a picture of a tree. Anh reads each sign carefully. He wants to understand his new home.
Paragraph D At the end of the corridor there is a big bell. Every morning, the bell rings. This is the signal to wake up. There is also a wooden board on the wall. On the board it says: "BREAKFAST — 6:00 AM" and "MEDITATION — 7:00 AM." Anh reads the board. He nods slowly. He is ready to learn.
